Not once did we ever think that a motorcycle would fit into any part of Mansory’s lineup, so you can imagine our surprise when we came across the Mansory Zapico. The Zapico is Mansory’s first custom bike creation developed with bike customizer Thomas M. George.George was responsible for the motorcycle itself, then Mansory moved in with the front mask, bug spoiler, seat module, primary shield, and silencer, as well as the applications on the fuel tank, the frame, fork, wheel rims, and airbox all being part of their contribution. Mansory was also responsible for the use of carbon, as is customary with them, and all of the leather work.The Mansory Zapico is powered by a powerful 124 cubic inch (around 2,080 cm�) V2 engine made by the well-known American engine manufacturer, S&S. This engine produces 160 HP and, with the low curb weight of the motorcycle - it comes in at 340 kilos -, sprints the bike from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds.We would have to say that the Mansory Zapico is extremely impressive, especially being the first motorcycle ever worked on by Mansory. NEC's razor-thin MEDIAS N-04C Android launched in Japan, gets carefully manhandled
We've already seen product shots of the crazy thin, drool-inducing NEC MEDIAS N-04C, but for a product boasting the "world's thinnest" title, it's always useful to see comparison shots for the sake of our curiosity. Thankfully, the good folks over at Akihabara News were present at DoCoMo's launch event, and they were able to get up close to inspect this 7.7mm-thin Android 2.2 handset (with Android 2.3 upgrade available around July). It's pretty amazing considering all the goodies packed within this phone -- here's a quick recap: NFC, 1seg TV Tuner, infrared port, 5 megapixel camera, 800MHz Qualcomm MSM7230 chip, etc. Oh, and this phone uses Gorilla Glass, too. If you happen to reside in Japan -- which is where it'll remain exclusive to -- you'll be able to pick up this NEC in black or white flavor on March 15, though price has yet to be announced. All we have as of right now are the names of the packages plus a few images, but it looks like AC Schnitzer has done a great job, as usual.The first package from the German tuner is called the Z4 99d and uses a diesel engine that delivers 190 HP and 420 NM of torque. With this amount of power, plus a weight reduction of 230 kilos (507 lbs.), the tuner has managed to obtain a 0 to 60 mph sprint time of just 6.9 seconds, while top speed is 146 mph. This performance is accompanied by a fuel consumption of 3.8 liter diesel per 100 kilometers and a CO2 emission of just 99.18 g/km.AC Schnitzer also spent some time on the exterior of the BMW Z4 with an interesting paint job. We don’t know just how we feel about the green, blue, and black swirl paint yet, but it may just fit the BMW nicely.Stay tuned for more details on the BMW Z4 320d when the Geneva Motor Show opens its doors on March 1st, 2011! Intel refutes Apple exclusivity for Thunderbolt I/O, LaCie and Promise detail first Thunderbolt peripherals
We can think of a pretty good reason why Apple might have a head-start when it comes to Thunderbolt-capable machines, but Apple doesn't actually have a timed exclusive on the technology, at least according to Intel PR. The company told us that while it's currently targeting an early 2012 launch for Thunderbolt with other OEMs -- whereas the new MacBook Pro has Thunderbolt right now -- there's nothing stopping other manufacturers from launching machines with the 10Gbps interconnect a good bit earlier if they so desire.
In related news, the first Thunderbolt peripherals have just been formally announced -- the Promise Pegasus RAID array we saw spitting out 800MB / sec video streams, and the LaCie Little Big Disk. The former will come four-bay or six-bay variants, topping out at 12TB of magnetic storage when it arrives in Q2, and the latter will boast a pair of Intel 510 Series SSDs -- which, by the way, have yet to be formally announced -- in RAID 0 for 500GB of storage in total. Intel Thunderbolt: a closer look (updated with video)
So what's this Thunderbolt stuff, and why is it in your new MacBook Pro? Intel just broke it down for us, and now we'll do the same for you. Simply put, Thunderbolt's a familiar-looking port, a brand-new chip, and a cord, which allows devices to pipe two data streams simultaneously -- in both directions -- over a single cable at up to 10 gigabits per second to start, primarily using PCI Express x4 for data and DisplayPort for video. The Thunderbolt controller chip -- required for the system, but Intel says it's hardware-agnostic and doesn't require an Intel processor or chipset to use -- acts as a miniature router of sorts that rapidly switches between the two bidirectional channels of data.
Sounds great, but why would you want to buy into yet another copper cord? Intel defends that Thunderbolt will be backwards and forwards-compatible depending on the cable used. Representatives explained that the basic system can work with any other PCI Express 2.0-compatible I/O system with, say, a FireWire or eSATA adapter doing the dirty work --Intel wouldn't specifically comment on USB 3.0 -- and that the port you'll find in new MacBook Pros and storage devices can actually take an optical cable when those are cost-effective enough to roll out, because Intel will eventually bake the optical transceivers into the cables themselves. In the meanwhile, you can get up to three meters of range out of a basic cable, plus a fairly generous 10 watts of power over the bus, and since Thunderbolt devices are designed to be daisy-chained, you may be able to get another three meters for each device you add on that sports a pair of the ports.
Though Intel wasn't talking about likely prices for the chips or cables in even the most general terms, Promise and LaCie had prototype devices on hand headed to the market soon -- get a peek at them and a closer look at the cable in our gallery below, and we'll have video up in a little while too.
Update: Looks like LaCie's product now has a name and vague release date: it's the LaCie Little Big Disk, coming this summer, with a pair of solid state drives inside.

Well, now it looks like the Geneva Motor Show is going to be the stage for the touring version of the Alpina B5 Bi-Turbo to make its debut.Not a lot of information was bared on what kind of aerodynamic changes the station wagon is going to come with, but we do know that it will offer the same powertrain as that of the sedan version, which will be a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 507 horsepower and 516 lb/ft of torque and mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.The only difference - albeit a pretty small one - is that the sedan version posts a slightly faster 0-60 mph time - 4.7 seconds to 4.8 - compared to the touring version of the B5 Bi-Turbo. This new sports car will be based on a new central engine chassis and V8-powered drivetrain, and will be designed by Touring Superleggera. The official debut will be made on March 1st, 2011 at the Geneva Motor Show.This new model will be setting a new standard for Gumpert as high-end engineering, sportiness, and elegance will come together to join the street-legal performance of the Apollo. The superleggera will feature composite body panels placed on a space frame and a carbon fiber monocoque. These elements will allow the Tornante to be much more spacious than the Apollo.Call us crazy, but it doesn’t seem as if the exterior design for the Tornante is all that different from the Apollo. The biggest difference we can see is the open top, which leads us to believe that the gullwing doors will be eliminated from the overall design. And we can’t forget to mention that horrid gold exterior paint. Of course, these are just sketches at the moment, so we’ll have to wait until the Geneva Motor Show to get all of the details for the Gumpert Tornante by Touring after its official debut.Updated 02/11/2011: Gumpert has revealed the first details and also the first official image of the Tornante supercar. The Emo Subculture
Emo, is a term which is given to the subculture of hardcore punk and pop, which originated from the Washington DC area, but which later spread like wildfire to the rest of the US and also to other parts of the world. Emo has since evolved into a musical and fashion experience which is embraced by quite a number of young adherents.The word ?Emo? actually originated from the term "emocore" which refers to the hardcore punk music scene which started in the mid-1980s. The term is a variation of the word "emotive hardcore", which is what the bands in the DC area sounded like. They have developed a unique punk-rock style of music, which blended the characteristics of the electric guitar with smooth sounded mellow tracks, which are typically screamed from the top of the lungs, hence the term emotive hardcore. This attracts crowds of young people. Their chants and raves have become characteristic as far as Emo concerts are concerned. Black is considered the color of choice in the Emo universe and it permeates almost all aspects of the Emo dress code. Just look at the Saab-Spyker negotiations and the plethora of vehicles offered once the transfer was complete for a true-to-life example of this scenario. Now Italdesign Giugiaro - the same guys credited for their work on some of the greatest supercars to date - is getting ready to leave their recent Volkswagen buyout in the past with a new concept car which will debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.Italdesign Giugiaro hasn’t released any real details on the new concept just yet, but they have revealed their seemingly obligatory teaser image in order to rouse up some interest in the new concept before its debut. They have even launched an official web page for this yet-to-be-seen concept with a countdown to Geneva. If you’re wondering, we’re about six days away from the show at the time of this posting.The only thing we could get from the obscure website information thus far, is that we believe the new concept will be either a hybrid or an electric vehicle, although our bets are on a full electric model showing its face at the show. Italian chassis manufacturer Dallara has built countless racing cars for teams in innumerable racing series, and with the KTM X-Bow on the road and the Alfa Romeo 4C GTA reportedly under development, Dallara has done likewise for automakers. New rumors suggest that Dallara is ready to move beyond helping other outfits develop cars, however.
Word is, Dallara is planning a two-seat sports car to be sold under its own name that's built on architecture similar to what it developed for the X-Bow and Alfa 4C. With carbon-fiber construction and a low curb weight, it would be targeted at the Lotus Elise but come closer in spirit to the original Lotus Seven. In other words, Lotus had better pay attention.

Bang. Just after I got off the phone with you guys talking about tablet makers actually shipping that we have a bonafide tablet maker talking about actually shipping. Incoming HP CEO Leo Apotheker talked with the WSJ today about the challenges his behemoth faces.
Considering Mark Hurd essentially drove HP into the innovation weeds, shipping more and more boring product year-in-year-out, Leo has a big job ahead of him. He notes that HP is full of innovation but that no one is telling the HP story:
H-P is an extraordinary company that has managed to keep much of its greatness secret. H-P needs to rekindle its innovation capabilities, H-P needs to come closer to some customers, and H-P needs to tell its story.

Filed under: Convertible, Performance, Etc., Subaru, Specialty, Design/StyleMassachusetts-based Factory Five, the builder of some exceptional Shelby Cobra replicas and the GTM race car, has announced a new project vehicle. Starting with a Subaru WRX donor car, the Factory Five team says it will be able to produce a mid-engined two-seater for under $15,000... and you can help design it.
Factory Five is teaming up with Grassroots Motorsports Magazine to run a public design contest. The goal for the this as-yet unamed sports car will be to feature the WRX running car and weigh in at just 1,800 pounds. It will have a removable top, 95-inch wheelbase and the Subie engine will power the rear wheels.
Stay tuned for more details on this crowdsourced design contest as they emerge. Submissions will be accepted beginning March 1, so the official contest rules should be along shortly. Thanks to everyone for the tips!
